Tip Sheet

I prefer live bait- especially shiners and worms! If I had to choose an artificial lure, I've had some luck with the Rebel frog. Works well around lillypads and grass.

The top 3 lures among the professional fishermen for catching Bass are plastic worms, spinner bait and then the crank bait in that order. They come in various sizes and colors for most water conditions.

When open water fishing for Bass, one of the hardest aspects to master is submerged structure casting, getting your bait in and into the water at the exact location and at the right depth. You are trying to imitate the bass's prey.

Many bass anglers use a countdown method to find the proper depth. Simply start counting, 1001, 1002, 1003 when your bait touches the surface to estimate the depth. Once you've located the big bass you want to be able to repeat the process.

The best lures are to look around at the Lake or pond where the natural wildlife is, Bugs, flying insects or just pond food, and try and give them something they are used to in the local habitat...

I love a good beetle spin! Seems to be the magic lure for me. I also like a crank bait.

It is hard to beat a jig and pig in heavy cover. Use a stout rod and heavy braided line to pull these huge fish out of heavy cover. You will only get a few bites, but they will be big fish.
