Exercise specificity is not about similar looking exercises but rather similar mechanics, energy systems, etc. For example even though running looks horizontal, vertical forces are more important so resistance moves like squats can help runners.

Isometric training results in more improvement in isometric strength than dynamic strength. Dynamic strength training done in a restricted range of motion primarily results in improvements in strength through that ROM. This is specificity.

In resistance training the specificity principle involves not only the specificity of the task or movement pattern but also joint angle and velocity of movement.
