Tip Sheet

If you want a product you do not have to use a single outsourcer. You can use different people to create different parts of the product. For instance, the person writing your e-book might not be the best person to create the graphics.

Always ask for samples of previous work before hiring an outsourcer. Take the time to check through them. For written work, look at the standard of English and see if it will represent you in a positive light.

Ask for work to be completed in stages. That way you can check if this meets your needs. For instance, if outsourcing an e-book, ask to see a table of contents, followed by chapters as they are completed.

Never just assume that samples provided by an outsourcer are their own work. These samples can be 'borrowed'. Also check the standard of written English in their e-mails or gives them quick tests to check if they are up to the job.

Be specific about who owns what and ask for all samples, templates, and full document files in case you need to make any changes later. This is important when you outsource graphic work too.
