Find out when the dealership's sales targets are due. This will often be at the end of a month or quarter. At this point, the dealership can offer you much greater discounts than at other times, because they can stand to lose substantial bonuses.

Use their technique to your advantage. They will leave and then come back with the best offer their boss will allow. Use your spouse as your "boss" and call him/her with their offer. Then let them know that your boss won't let you spend that much.

End of the model year, usually between August - October. Dealers need to make room for next years models and will be more ready to deal.

If you have a trade in, always get the final price from the dealer then then tell them you have a trade in. This way you'll actually get money for your tarde in rather then them hiding the value in the overall price.

Also remember "Used" doesnt mean "worse". A well-maintained used car will usually already have bad or faulty parts replaced under warranty with quality OEM parts. Have an independent shop check the car, and you will save $$$ over buying new.

Pay attention to the overall price of the vehicle and not the monthly amortization. Always check the actual price of the car before agreeing on a certain deal.
