Watch out for products that claim they’re packed full of added minerals and vitamins. It may sound impressive but it the equivalent of crushing a multivitamin in to make a difference.

Avoid buying sports or high energy drinks and just stick to water. Energy drinks give you calories that you'll only have to burn off or they'll end up on your hips.

If you're buying tinned products (e.g:Tuna) go for those containing water or tomato rather than those containing oil.

When shopping buy some pineapple, as its a natural source of dietary enzymes – and helps with breaking your food down as efficiently as possible.

When food labels say “made with organic ingredients” it’s only saying that at least 70 percent of the ingredients are organic. The other five percent of ingredients are fair game for pesticides and other chemicals.

When shopping always start in the fruit and vegetables aisle first, fill your basket or trolley there before you travel around the store.It leaves less room for convenience and snack foods.

If you're thinking of buying tinned fruit, avoid ones that contain syrup, as they can contain twice the calories

Always use a list when you shop, and stick to it. Almost any other food item you put in the buggy will be something that does NOT fit in to your weight loss plan.

Don't shop with your teenagers or children, they will try to talk you into buying high calories food for them and you will be tempted to add a few treats for yourself.

Take a slim person with you, have them advise you on your choices. Trust them to make the final choice. This way you'll learn the discipline that your friend already has. If they choose apples for you, and not candy, then you get to eat slim food :)
