Tip Sheet

Dogs learn through repeated actions. Repeat your command, guide him to perform it, and reward him when he does it correctly. You might need to perform this repeatedly. But it works.

If you are more people in the family than yourself that should care for the dog make sure that dog training becomes a joint effort and develop shared ideas of how the dog should behave.

Always praise desired behavior. Correct undesirable behavior consistently and immediately. The younger the dog, the shorter the attention span. If you don't catch them in the act, don't discipline them. They won't know why they're being punished.

Use small portions when rewarding. They mainly just want the taste, not the size of the treat.

As a dog owner we often forget to give the dog ‘free’ when we have had it under command. That isn’t the way to teach the dog to behave under our command.

Start young and spend as much time as you can socializing your dog with people and other dogs when it is young. The sooner it gets that exposure, the better chance you will end up with a well rounded people friendly and dog friendly dog.

To attend a dog training course is essentially to be trained as a dog owner yourself – realise that and get much better results.

Take your time when you train your dog. Don’t insist if the dog shows signs of fatigue, there’s no need to exhaust the dog as learning under such circumstances is ineffective. In other word, don't bully your dog. Instead be friendly.

Try to make training exercises fun for your dog (and you, ideally).

I may not be Alpha Male but I'm Momma Dog in our home. I have always tried to correct my dog they same way as his Momma, using my voice in a low growl when he is doing wrong and praising him when he does good. Communicating on his level is the key.

Begging behaviour for food at the table is among the most annoying bad habits of dogs and some of the most controversial among dog owners. A dog that ONE time have got food from the table will never forget it – nor forget you.

Number 1 problem is that owners dont know how to become the alpha male therefore they confuse their dogs with their actions. GoogleSearch "dog alpha male characteristics". Effectively communicate to ur dog that you're alpha helps when training..a lot.
