Before reacting to the things your kids do that upset you or when they don't listen to your directions count to five so you don't just react and yell. Get close to them and tell them in a firm serious voice what you want. It makes a huge difference.

I agree. Yelling just makes the child even more upset and before you know it you are both over reacting. It is sometimes just a normal reaction for us to yell and get upset, but with practice, not yelling can become the routine.
