Set up a TEST blog in a subdirectory on your site - learn how to make changes to themes etc on this and ensure they work BEFORE doing it to your main site. Make sure the PRIVACY on the test blog is set to block search engines.

Fantastico is the best option to set up. But learn to set it up personally by Creating your own MySQL Database and Username. Download the WordPress setup files. Learn to FTP the files up. Read the Install File and link everything up! Be Proud!

I agree that with Hostgator it is extremely easy too set up your blog. They always have the latest version available. It is a matter of a few clicks and it is installed. I have been hosting with them for a few years, never had a problem installing a blog.

Once your site is installed using Fantastico, the most important next step is to change your Permalink structure so that the URLs to individual pages contain the title of the page. The default setting is bad for SEO.

Beware of web hosts who offer Wordpress blogs using WordpressMU (multi-user). These are often so crippled as to be useless. Ideally, you want CPanel/Fantastico so you can have full control of your blog.

Log in to your hosting account using "cpanel" (short for "control panel") where you administer your hosting account. Click on either "Wordpress" or "Fantastico" and follow the instructions to install Wordpress.

First, determine if you want to host the blog with Wordpress itself (not recommended) or with your own host (recommended). I recommend hosting with your own host because then you own/control it.

Choose a host that has "cpanel" capability (makes installing Wordpress MUCH easier). Here's a list of hosts you can choose from: http://wordpress.org/hosting/

I recommend Hostgator for hosting (it's not on Peter's WP hosting list). I guess as long as your package includes Fantastico for easy and quick WP installation, it's OK.

Make your Wordpress blog better with plug-ins. Most are free. You can find the Plugins Directory at wordpress.org.

Make your Wordpress blog look professional with a free or paid theme. Hundreds of themes are free. A few of the better ones cost money. Either way, a personalized theme will make your blog stand out from the crowd.

Once you're setup go here: http://www.undergroundtraininglab.com/ and download Jeff's "Traffic Getting SEO Plugin" Use the tutorials to install it. It auto configures & optimizes your blog for SEO. There's a paid version but Free works great.
