Buy Elixir strings, or one of the other coated brands. They cost more, but they last much much longer than normal guitar strings. Also, get your amp serviced, especially if it's a tube amp. Degraded tubes will hurt your tone more than anything!

Use only one brand of strings to avoid necessary adjustments on pedals and retain sound preference and consistency.

Wipe the strings with a lint free cloth after use to help reduce the build up of grease and dirt. Dirty strings lose their tone.
