My son recently asked how I was able 2 keep them away from drugs, alcohol & cigarettes. I simply replied drug dealers take cash! Many parents give allowances but this could be dangerous. Bored kids will turn 2 something 2 amuse them--no cash, no drugs!

Keep them interested in as many activities as possible. If their time is taken up with things they enjoy doing, they are less likely to turn to drugs etc.

Kids that are not equipped with skills to generate self-motivated, meaningful activity are often prone to boredom. Those equipped to engage in internally rewarding, complex experiences in their leisure, may be inclined to persevere in such behaviours.

i panhandled to get high, I did a lot of things to get my hands on drugs. I grew up poor and was never given money, but i found a way to get high. I did a lot of bad things. I quit when my mom gave up on me, joined the Marines got straightened out.

no cash no drugs, is the most asinine piece of advice that blatently overlooks all of the real influences on deviant and self destructive behavior that i've ever heard.
