Eat seasonally and as nature intended. Eating tomatoes out of season means that most of the natural flavour is missing. Additionally, there must have been huge environmential considerations to attempt to grow the tomatoes.

Leaving tomatoes to ripe on the vine gives them the most flavor. Use soon after cutting or slicing for the best flavor.

If you want to get the best flavor form a tomato, don't slice it until just before eating. That's because as son as three minutes after slicing, it starts to lose its aroma and flavor. Refrigerating tomatoes also lowers its flavor level.

When the tomatoes are growing, keep the birds from pecking holes in them by hanging old CDs nearby. The flashing light scares most birds away.

The best tomatoes are candy-tomatoes eaten directly from tree. I just rub them on my shirt and eat them. They are super sweet tiny marble sized nuggets. They actually grow wild and not homegrowned. They are hard to find today.

A recent University study on sweetness (brix factor) in tomatoes showed that ripening in house at room temp not on windowsill gives a higher sugar level. Pick when just about ripe and try this. It works Best flavor in Heirloom varieties of course.
