Tip Sheet

Well, MOST of the information on "healthy" dog food is in fact WRONG. Most vets have no idea on dog nutrition(believe it or not) because they just don't receive appropriate training at vet school.

Vets get the majority of their information on dog nutrition from the commercial dog food companies. And you know what the sole motivation of almost all of those pet food manufacturers is, don't you? Profit.

Well, the best dog food for your dog's health does not come from a can or a bag. The best dog food for your dog is fresh food - raw is best. Home cooked dog food is next best.

Many pet owners believe what they are told about commercial dog food. Perhaps your vet has made a recommendation about a particular type of dog food. So how do you know whether the information you hear or read is accurate?

Most commercial dog food is full of toxic chemicals, as well as diseased parts of other dogs in some cases. These chemicals will weaken their immune system, and this leads to all sorts of other illnesses, chronic inflammation and even cancer.

After the pet food scare a few years ago, I researched what I was feeding Rusty. Main ingredients: starch, filler, fiber. After checking labels, switched to Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul. It seems to be a more balanced formula.

Check that the sources of the ingredients for your dog food does not come from an aggregator who sells to many companies; a company that can track all its ingredients will provide a safety margin. We like Merrick for that reason.
