My favorite was to break the silence is to go out for dinner and sit across the table from one another - without a television, band or anyone else. You'll be amazed how quickly you reconnect when there are no distractions.

Silence in a relationship is never a good thing, it means you've given up, that the connection is broken. You need to go back and find common ground, common interest and remember what brought you together in the first place.

I think it depends on how long the silence lasts and whether it feels temporary or permanent. It's important not to rush to conclusions that the relationship is over just because one person may temporarily need a bit of quiet time and space.
