Clean your iron by rubbing some salt on it with a damp cloth.

You can also clean them the way the old wife's did by rubbing the iron in a bed of sand. This works well for iron skillets too.

if your steam iron isn't operating as it should, unplug the iron and, when cool, clear the holes with the end of a needle or straightened paper clip.

Use rainwater in your iron whenever possible. Melting frost from your freezer will give you distilled water which is also a good choice or run tap water through a special water filter.
