Use the RSS feed functionality build into Squidoo to ensure that your lens is regularly updated with new information. This will help in to appear fresh in the eyes of the search engines.

When choosing your longtail keyword for Squidoo, also make sure that no one else from squidoo is ranked on the 1st or 2nd page of Google for that term- even if you can get your keyword in the Squidoo url! Google rarely lets 2 lenses rank together.

Lenses are meant to be resources to help with further study. Links out to more information are as important to your ranking on Squidoo as links in. Make sure you link out to a number of quality websites relevant to your lens.

Don't expect to make much money purely from Squidoo. Most of your profits will come from sending traffic to your main website or an affiliate program. One of my lenses makes $100+ every month from the affiliate program it is connected too.

Take time in choosing you lens URL. Do a keyword search and find a long-tailed keyword that people are searching for but which has little competition. If your choice of URL is already taken, use hyphens or add a number to the end of it.
