Experiment between asking for both a name and e-mail address, and just an e-mail address. The latter should get quicker signups, but will not allow you so many personalisations options later.

You can use things like ViralTweets to build a list quickly using Twitter, or the $7 script to build a list by letting others sell your short reports. Another great way is by launching a Clickbank product, where you get proven buyers on your list.

To build a list quickly, use 'incentivized viral marketing' - give your existing subscribers incentives to send you more subscribers. They have seen what's on offer. If they like it - all they need is a little nudge to refer others to your squeeze page

Put an optin box on your blog! Most blogger forget about that. They "just" offer a subscription to their blogs RSS feed but forget to publish a box to let their visitors subscribe to their newsletter and receive their latest report for free.

Give away a free product like an eBook, preferably one that you created yourself, on your site. You could also extend this to upsell to a product on the download page you send them to after they opt-in.

Most free methods requires time. Use Pay Per Click and the $7 script to sell a report and to build a list of byers. Then make those buyers into affiliates and give them 100% commission. Now people build you a list of buyers for free!

One of the quickest and easiest ways I've found is to offer free updates when you have new products added to your site. No time wasted building free reports or giving anything away. This works great in tangible product niches!

Offering free incentives is the best way and not necessarily a fast way to build a list. Fact is, there is no fast way. But above all...hard work, patience and definitely perseverance will fatten your list(s).
