Tip Sheet

Start each day with a to-do list of 3 to 5 items on it, of those things you want to focus on to make incremental progress towards completion of a project (not just daily trivia like "drive to work, pay bills, eat dinner". Then focus on those tasks.

Make use of your commuting time to and from work to accomplish small tasks. If driving, this can include educational tasks via listening to CDs or MP3s. If on public transport, you can read or write.

Check e-mail only at predefined times, e.g. once or twice a day. Remove any notifications when e-mails arrive outside those times to avoid the distraction. Urgent communications can still get to you when made by telephone.

Don't start off work by reading your email. Eliminate that habit. Because you are starting work on other people's terms. Starting work on YOUR terms. On what you need to get done first!

Make a to-do list with your goals for the day/week. Schedule time for important tasks and projects as you would a client/meeting. This will keep you in a routine and you will tend to get the item off your plate since you only have so much allotted time.

Every day after end work write your to-do list for the next day, like: 1) A thing that you really do not like, but should do. 2) An important and urgent task. 3) An important thing you like to do. And then your routine tasks.

Focus on high value tasks such as relationship building and profitable activities. For tasks that are repetitive and mundane, get them automated. There are several softwares, such as Macro recorder (e.g. WinAutomation) that can help with this.

Exercise regularly. When the body is strong, it helps stimulate the mind. And this increases your physical and mental capacity to do more work. And also, exercises such as jogging help you to de-stress and de-clutter your mind.

Have a simple "timed" daily routine, always focus on improving your traffic, your content or bonuses for your list. Any extra that comes in, create a point by point todo list the night before so you're ready to be productive first thing in the morning.
