Work on basic finger exercises and scales to begin to build dexterity. Also, finding a local teacher will help focus attention and stop you going down the many blind alleys you find when you teach yourself from scratch

Use MEDIUM weight guitar pics when you're starting out. Beginners will likely find Light picks too soft and flexible - and Heavy pics so stiff you might even break the upper strings.

Guitar Tip for complete beginners when you are just starting out learn you parts of the guitar, then the strings, after that learn how to tune the guitar. Once that is complete learn easy guitar chords here are the basics used A-C-D-E-F-G. Practice a lot.

Keep your fingernails trimmed short on the hand that presses the stings down. When you play a note, push as close to the respective fret as possible.
