Tip Sheet

It can be a fine line to retain formula/bottle feeding as an option if baby is predominantly breast-fed. To help keep baby from becoming too fussy, be sure to feed him formula occasionally after 6wks (say, at least once a week thereafter).

If baby is predominantly breast-fed, for dad/non-primary caregiver => wear something that mum wears while she is breast-feeding (or put your t-shirt between mum and baby while she is breastfeeding on a few occasions to infuse it with mummy's scent).

If baby is predominantly breast-fed and fusses with the bottle => try many different positions. If baby is used to mummy feeding him on his back, he may need to be turned and held outwards so that he accepts a feed from dad/non-primary caregiver.

Many experts have said that whey-based (organic) formula may be better for colicky babies. This has been my experience with our son also! Holle and Bellamy's are two that I can recommend, though neither is particularly cheap.
