Take several different sizes of water bottles and freeze them. Add the needed sizes to your ice chest to keep your food cold. Then when they melt, you can drink the water.

If you can freeze things when you are going on a long trip like juice boxes they will stay cooler longer in your ice chest. If they are not thawing you can always take them out until they do.
