Tip Sheet

If you are in a hurry, use quick set joint compound. It hardens before it dries, allowing you to do multiple coats in a single day. For ease of sanding, top coat with something softer, like lightweight joint mud.

Drywall sheets are FINISH material, and they are fragile. Handle with care. Don't bang corners, make accurate cuts, don't force it into place. Use drywall screws, set the heads about 1/16". Use a sharp knife to cut, avoid burred cuts. Trim bad cuts.

Drywall compound (mud) takes a long time to dry. You can speed up the process using a small space heater. Don't sand it until it is thoroughly dry.
