Instead of asking a two year old if he wants to do something, give him a choice - shall we go to the butchers first or the bakers? If you ask 'do you want to go shopping' and he says 'no' you then have to somehow change this to a 'yes'.

If given a choice, children often pick the second option so if you have a preference, mention your choice second.

Velcro strips instead of buttons, press-studs and zips make dressing themselves much easier for young children.

Place a spot on the inside edge of children's shoes and teach them that the spots need to be close to each other so the shoes go on the correct feet.
