Don't use dark text on a dark background, same for a light text on light background. It makes the message you're trying to get across very difficult to read. I see this more often than any other problem in banners/posters/cards/etc. Tip Credibility: 87 (Best Tip!)

The technique that works for classified ads also works for banner ads. Don't attempt to "sell" on a banner ad. Rather, entice the viewer to take steps to get more information ... pick up the phone, click on a link, fill out a form, etc. It works! Tip Credibility: 29

Don't overuse photoshop special effects like big drop shadows and textures.. It's distracting and can really start to look tacky. A simple banner with nice image use often works best. Tip Credibility: 7
