What is the topic for your essay? Are you sure? Read it again at least twice. Still sure? Be absolutely certain about what is being asked for. No point writing an essay if you don't answer the right question.

You should write your essay in three parts. Make sure that there is a connection between them in your final draft.

Check your spelling. Badly spelt essays annoy markers. Use the spellcheck and the dictionary. Spell checks do not pick up commonly confused words. Ensure that the word you used is the one you want.

How to Write an Essay - Spell-Checker - If necessary, upgrade your spell checker in your writing document..be it Word or WordPerfect or another. Check the help section of your program. You can find yourself doing this for a college class, for example.

For your research read widely and include differing points of view. This gives a strong basis to your essay writing. It will allow you make your own conclusions.

Run on sentences ruin many essays. One sentence equals one idea. More then one idea means more than one sentence.

Write your introduction last. You cannot introduce what you don't know. Your essay will be stronger if it is connected

Use SEX to write your essay. Make a Statement, Explain it, give an eXample. Following this logical progression will make your essay stronger and show your learning.

The conclusion of your essay is where you show your learning most. Use the points you have raised in the body to make a logical end. Do not bring new facts into the conclusion.

Each paragraph should be linked to the last paragraph. These are called paragraph hooks. Paragraph hooks leads to a cohesive essay.
