Agreed. Most directories show the Number of sites within the category or subcategory - and the fewer the better. If your new listing ends up 5, 10 or more pages deep, it's far less likely to get crawled. Tip Credibility: 6
There are several places that'll submit your domain to 1000 or more WhoIS lookup sites for free. Most are worthless, but a few do yield a decently ranking backlink. Can't hurt to try, I've never seen mass lookups hurt a site's ranking. Tip Credibility: 6
Of the thousands of whois lookup sites - a select few are powerful, especially those that pull your Title/Desc/Keyword Meta info and get indexed with YOUR Meta content shown in search results. Overall a small but important backlink building tactic. Tip Credibility: 4
I always think of link anchor text in 2 ways: 1st to strengthen keywords I am _already_ ranking well for. But other times I anchor with highly competitive money phrases I _WANT_ to be able to rank for down the road as my site gets more authority and links Tip Credibility: 4
Don't get trapped into thinking there's one 'MAGIC' keyword and just use it over & over. Mix in other variations & word sequences to broaden your rankings. Google isn't dumb it knows 'Mac SEO software' & 'SEO programs for Macintosh' are the same. Tip Credibility: 4
Agreed SEOQuake is a must have. On the Mac, it hovers atop the page content instead of adding a separate Toolbar row in your browser. So Apple users need to be aware SEOQuake can sometimes block menus and other site controls at the top of the screen. Tip Credibility: 4
I've built a fantastic money-making web empire and NEVER wasted energy on Reciprocal links. There's just too many ways to get decent 1-way links anchored with the exact keywords you want without having to barter, swap, beg or link back. Tip Credibility: 3
Initial keyword research is critical. But keywords you can rank for and compete on CHANGE over time. So watch your web stats closely for KW's you didn't expect but _can_ get good traffic for - and adjust your on-page accordingly. Build on What-Works! Tip Credibility: 4
TipDrop is very powerful for SEO. Beef up your profile and _backlink_ to it, follow some folks, add your 2 cents of wisdom, share what you know. Here it becomes part of something permanent. On Twitter it just comes... and goes. Tip Credibility: 4
Find a niche, market, and domain you truly are passionate about and give 110%. Pound on your site to make it better, build backlinks like crazy, establish a persona, identity and brand and consistently use that across the web. You WILL make money online. Tip Credibility: 4
No-Follow backlinks may not be ideal. But it's important to remember that ANY link that sends traffic your way is great - AND - it protects your day to day traffic fluctuations from the whims of the big Search Engines. Keep building links, they will help Tip Credibility: 4
Agreed. Be original. Avoid spin, spin, re-spinning your or someone else's content. Even if your writing style isn't that great, search engines will value your original way of piecing together words MORE than a bent, folded and mutilated piece of rehash. Tip Credibility: 4
After building a ZILLION backlinks, I'm convinced that the real trick to getting good traffic is to choose, tweak & FIX your ON-PAGE keywords to phrases you CAN compete & get to Page 1 of organic search for. The rest is about using PRECISE anchor text. Tip Credibility: 4
