| Determine whether what's making you unhappy is something over which you have control. If not, stop worrying about it. If it's something over which you have control, work on making it better. Tip Credibility: 7 |
| It is not possible to have too many backups. I just lost a 1TB drive on a Windows Home Server that took some things with it that I didn't have backed up properly. Test your backups regularly by restoring from them. Tip Credibility: 5 |
| If you're expected to call the tune, make sure it's something the band already knows, or can learn easily on the fly. Tip Credibility: 5 |
| Be respectful of the band, especially if they're getting paid. This isn't your show, it's theirs, and it's a privilege to be asked to sit in. Pay attention and fit into what's being played. Tip Credibility: 7 |
| Unplug all those wall warts (AC adapters) that aren't being used to charge or run laptops, cell phones, MP3 players, etc. They use electricity while plugged in even if the associated device is not attached to them. Only plug them in as needed. Tip Credibility: 6 |
| Always praise desired behavior. Correct undesirable behavior consistently and immediately. The younger the dog, the shorter the attention span. If you don't catch them in the act, don't discipline them. They won't know why they're being punished. Tip Credibility: 5 |
| Beware of web hosts who offer Wordpress blogs using WordpressMU (multi-user). These are often so crippled as to be useless. Ideally, you want CPanel/Fantastico so you can have full control of your blog. Tip Credibility: 7 |
| Serif has older versions of their apps available free at freeserifsoftware.com. I've used their apps for years and found them to be excellent. If you're not an extreme power user, the older versions are usually more than adequate. Tip Credibility: 5 |
