Disaster Preparedness - If a family member uses a wheelchair, be sure you have more than one exit from your home that is wide enough for the wheelchair, in case the primary exit is blocked. Tip Credibility: 7
Disaster Preparedness - Family with Disabilities - Think through what you will do to assist in case of power outages and personal injury. Know how to connect or start a back-up power supply for any essential medical equipment. Tip Credibility: 4
Disaster Preparedness - Family with Disabilities - Figure out what you will need to do to assist a family member in a wheelchair during an emergency. Consider what you need to do and any alternatives. Have a spare battery. Tip Credibility: 4
Disaster Preparedness - Family with Disabilities - If family member currently uses a personal care attendant obtained through an agency, check to see if the agency has special provisions for emergencies. Tip Credibility: 4
Disaster Preparedness - Family with Disabilities - Learn about special assistance that may be available during an emergency from your community fire dept, Emergency Management Office, and utility companies. Tip Credibility: 4
Disaster Preparedness - Evacuation needs - Consider what you need in the areas of food, water, medical needs, tools and supplies, clothing and bedding, as well as sanitation and hygiene needs. Tip Credibility: 41
Disaster Preparedness - Basic Needs - Make a family emergency supply kit for the first 72 hours to a week before help can be expected to arrive. Kit should include things like oil lamps, weather radio, batteries, flashlights, N95 dust mask, map, & cash. Tip Credibility: 41
Pet Loss - One thing I did when I lost my cat who was 13 years old was to make a shadow box memorial of her and my mother payed for me to have a box of her ashes. Tip Credibility: 45
Archival Scrapbooking - Acid-free does not always mean the product is photo safe. Products passing the PAT test only means the material is safe with photos, not necessarily archival safe. Check the pH factor. Product tested has CK OK Seal of Approval. Tip Credibility: 34
Archival Scrapbooking - Photos - Images on black and white last longer than those in color because the dyes in color photography breaks down over time. Keep this in mind when investing time and energy into your hobby. Tip Credibility: 33
Make-up - Don't use make-up excessively and always remove it before you go to bed. Use a cold cream like PONDS. Tip Credibility: 23
Soap and Water - If you have sensitive skin, use a fatted bar of soap with water, washing your face a couple times a day. This worked for me. Tip Credibility: 23
Archival Scrapbooking - Photos - When handling photos, wash hands often to avoid transferring your natural skin oils to the photographs. In the case of a photo being the only one in existance, consider wearing cotton gloves. Tip Credibility: 23
Archival Scrapbooking - Photos - Store in acid- and lignin-free boxes in a dark, cool, dry environment. Tip Credibility: 18
Archival Scrapbooking - photos - Ink for scrapbooking needs to be waterproof, odorless when dry, permanent, quick to dry, non-bleeding, non-toxic, and fade resistant. It is best to avoid writing on the back of one-of-a-kind photos. Tip Credibility: 21
Archival Scrapbooking - labeling photos on the back - use a soft graphite pencil, fine-line marker, or permanent pen. Never use a ballpoint pen as it can cause impressions in the photo. Tip Credibility: 21
Scrapbooking Embellishments - Wire - Create a memorabilia or memento holder for tickets and other small stuff by making a row of eyelets across your page and stringing wire through the holes. Tuck your treasures underneath the wire. Tip Credibility: 17
Scrapbooking Embellishments - Wire needs an organic look, then choose freeform shaping techniques in your design style. Write with your wire pieces or create a design using a purchased clip template. Tip Credibility: 17
Scrapbooking Embellishments - Use a wire jig, useful for making elaborate wire designs that have a uniform shape. Normally used for jewelry, it can provide a clean appearance on the scrapbook page. Tip Credibility: 17
Scrapbooking Embellishments - Wire is a wonderful embellishment. Save your scissors and use wire clippers and pliers to work this metal embellishment. Using your scissors in this case will only make them dull. Totally unnecessary. Tip Credibility: 17
Saving money on clothes - Don't be afraid to shop places like Goodwill or Salvation Army for good clothing. Just because it isn't in a ritzy store, doesn't mean it isn't any good. Do try on the outfit since you may not be able to return it later. Tip Credibility: 26
