The latest tips I've posted to TipDrop.
Post your urls on Twitter - Google picks them up in a couple of hours and will crawl from them - don't spam though, there's a rumour that google has a spam based tracker within Twitter. Getting people to retweet *really* helps. Tip Credibility: 4
If you can 'stage' it, find a small focal point to include in the picture - whether it's something unusual, or something more commonplace - use it as a secondary point of focus. Tip Credibility: 4
Learn the basics of each network, and how they 'mesh'. Create a strategy, such as ones suggested by Chris Brogan and other experts, then put your own spin on it. Be unique, you'll stand out more! Tip Credibility: 4
Use freecycle, both for your own needs and to recycle at better times - you'll save money on uplift or petrol to dispose of items, and may find things you need. Tip Credibility: 16
Sales tend to be yearly - if you can wait to buy bigger furniture items you can use the fact that most big companies hold several sales a year, and save yourself money. Tip Credibility: 16
Remember that though you have an illness, it doesn't need to be your sum total. Keep positive - enlist family and freinds to distract you in hard times, and to support and ground you when you're manic. Tip Credibility: 7
Make sure you find a city as soon as you can after leaving the starting area. Auction houses, banks and vendors are your freind, even at low levels. Tip Credibility: 4
Consider learning to make Amuguri - they're fun and teach you a lot of the foundations of crochet, without being part of a larger piece. Tip Credibility: 4
Don't always look at the quickest way to level as the best way to build up your character. Once you've got to a certain point, either way, to get rep, you're going to have to grind, so level for about five levels, then rep build at 50+ Tip Credibility: 4
| Different needles work better with different yarns.
Cotton goes well on Bamboo, along with other 'smooth' yarns, while metal works better with wools that might otherwise snag. Tip Credibility: 5 |
Always keep your clone and insurance as up to date as you can manage. You may get podded when you least expect it. Tip Credibility: 4
When you're just starting out, don't be afraid to ask for help. Throughout the game, if you're polite, you should find people that will answer your question. But ignore the trolls. Tip Credibility: 4
Practice the basic foundations of yoga. Learn, as close to instinct, the basic deep breathing methods. If you have a wii, get a copy of WiiFit, as it will teach you the basics in a fun, and non threatening way. Tip Credibility: 4
Work in a new medium - if you paint, work with pencils - if you sketch, work with paint - and see what you create. Tip Credibility: 27
Pitch and tailor to the person that handles work in your 'relevant' department. Pesonalising the query letter appropriately will show you've done your research. Tip Credibility: 4
Keep it to one page - trim any 'fat' that's included in other elements within your package. Tip Credibility: 4
Choose a critical event and focus on that within your story - give it that immediacy and built around it. Tip Credibility: 4
Offer to link your articles back from your portfolio - if you're able to do so, you can offer your clients a longer term link, back, in return for personal rights to use your article on your own site (either an excerpt or full text). Tip Credibility: 4
Use WordPress as a portfolio and store your clips online at publish date. One category will allow you to direct your new clients to all of your published tips. Tip Credibility: 5
