As a teenage fatty, I developed the habit of walking around with my stomach tucked in all the time. I thought it helped making me look "slim"er. It didn't and it was a waste of a whole lot of energy. Instead, I should focused on heavy core training.

One of my newfound and favorite core training exercises is found in the video above (M14 W3 Deadlift Day) and the way I plan to progress on this exercises is through increased periods of static holds and adding Range of Motion and repetitions.

Weight Training Mental Cues Should be Positive

Images help me while lifting. So, I have a bunch of videos which motivate me and give me a positive vibe. Almost all of Konstantine Konstantinovs and Benedikt Magnusson's deadlift videos do the trick for me. It's about being focussed - not motivation.

Having a strong core is almost a necessity if you want to sling heavy weights. Doing weighted heavy awkward exercises like Swiss Ball Jackknife Pikes really helps in strengthening the core. Have 15-20 exercises in your arsenal and rotate them per session.

I used to really hinder my progress thinking negatively like this...Now I use positive imagery to keep myself in line form-wise. Positive reinforcement all the way!
